Little History

During the Hellenistic Age of between 300-150 BC, Citrine was extremely popular with the Ancient Greeks and was said to be their main choice of Gemstones for Jewellery for thousands of years.

The Ancient Romans also used Citrine Gemstones for Intaglio work - (Small Gemstone that has been carved and made into Beautiful Jewellery).

Due to the hardness and durability of this Gemstone, during the 17th Century Citrine was used by Scottish Weapon and Tool Makers to create handles for their various weapons and tools.

In Victorian Times Citrine was very much sought after and in high demand for Statement Jewellery because of its hardness, beautiful tones of Champagnes and Yellows and because it was believed to carry the power of the Sun.

Queen Victoria was well known for her love of Gemstones and historians have stated that the Gemstone she loved and had great admiration for above all other Gemstones was Citrine, she was said to admire this Gemstone so much that she later authorised Citrine to be used to make Shoulder Brooches and Kilt Pins for the Traditional Scottish Costume.

Hollywood Icons such as Greta Garbo and Joan Crawford were known to have large pieces of Art Deco Style Jewellery which was specially created for them using Citrine Gemstones.
