A Little History

Snowflake Obsidian  was originally used to make weapons and tools such as spears and arrowheads.

In earlier times Obsidian was highly polished and used as mirrors and also to make pottery.

An American Archaeologist named Don Crabtree who was awarded the highest degree of a honorary doctorate by the University of Idaho is believed to have created surgical blades made from Snowflake Obsidian.

Some of the patterns and markings on these Gemstones look like Snowflakes of which are called Spherulites, these same Gemstones contain a mineral called Cristobalite, which is a type of Quartz and once the the lava from a volcano cools down, Quartz Crystals are formed which then creates the effect of a snowflake.
